By edict of the king, the mighty Scottish laird Alec Kincaid must take an English bride。 When he encounters Jamie, the feisty and beautiful daughter of Baron Jamison, he immediately selects her, determined to touch, tame, and possess her forever。

But Jamie has vowed to never surrender to this fierce highland barbarian。 He is everything she had been warned against—an arrogant scoundrel whose rough good looks hint at savage pleasures。 And though his scorching kisses fire her blood, she brazenly resists him…until one rapturous moment quells their clash of wills, and something far more dangerous than desire threatens to conquer her completely。

Honestly a great book!! Loved every minute of it and loved these two characters a lot。two complaint: 1。 the mystery was very obvious and really not much was told about it or dealt with which im kind of grateful for because I don't like these types of plots 2。 the heroine being all that great and everyone loving her every minute and everyone defending was a little too much。 her personality really cant be that great Honestly a great book!! 3。5⭐I don't know how I really feel as I think that I need to get used to Julie Garwood's style。 It's cheeky but seemingly underhanded or antagonistic where Jamie is trying to rile up Alex。 I love her spirit and willingness to use her talents to help people, which led to some interesting situations。 While I was reading it I felt puzzled by it but when I reflect on the story and what's happened I found it quite enjoyable。Steam: 🔥🔥🔥Heart flutters: ❤️❤️❤️ 3。5⭐I don't know how I really feel as I think that I need to get used to Julie Garwood's style。 It's cheeky but seemingly underhanded or antagonistic where Jamie is trying to rile up Alex。 I love her spirit and willingness to use her talents to help people, which led to some interesting situations。 While I was reading it I felt puzzled by it but when I reflect on the story and what's happened I found it quite enjoyable。Steam: 🔥🔥🔥Heart flutters: ❤️❤️❤️ 。。。more

5 stars。 This was almost a perfect book for me, and I don’t say that lightly。 The only complaint I really have was that the first sex scene had some dubious consent issues— those extra sensitive to this should maybe avoid this one。 Also, the male lead is incredibly sexist。 If this were a modern romance it would bother me, but it’s kind of par for the course for the time period, so I’m unbothered by it。 Again, if this will bug you, best skip this one。 But otherwise, it was perfection。 Jamie was s 5 stars。 This was almost a perfect book for me, and I don’t say that lightly。 The only complaint I really have was that the first sex scene had some dubious consent issues— those extra sensitive to this should maybe avoid this one。 Also, the male lead is incredibly sexist。 If this were a modern romance it would bother me, but it’s kind of par for the course for the time period, so I’m unbothered by it。 Again, if this will bug you, best skip this one。 But otherwise, it was perfection。 Jamie was such a memorable heroine。 But she wasn’t some wilting flower or doormat; she readily went head to head with Alec, a giant of a man that would make most men’s knees quiver。 I loved both of them。 If you have followed my reviews, you’ll know I like a quirky hero。 And Jamie was delightfully quirky。 Ok yes, she suffers from, not like the other girls syndrome, but I don’t care。 I loved her。 Honestly, I laughed, I swooned, I laughed some more。 Plus there was a bit of a mystery and I wasn’t able to figure it out。 And I’m almost always able to figure it out。 If you like historical romances, give this a try。 I don’t read that many within the Scottish highlander setting, but I loved it。 This was my first from Garwood (I know, I’m embarrassed I haven’t read more), but I’ve immediately ordered several more, including the next book in this series。 。。。more

I loved this book, it made me believe in love again。 I also loved how the author blended the two different povs to effectless。 I like books where you read both povs and I loved how the author wrote it。 I do agree the end felt rushed but it was still a good end that wrapped up all the storylines。

There was a lot I liked in this book and a lot I hated。 I know that the time period was even worse for women than now but I could never bring myself to like Alec; he only treated Jamie well because he actually liked her。 If she’d been Mary, he’d have just raped her whenever to try to produce an heir and shunned her, basically。 So the fact that he was good to her in the end doesn’t redeem him to me。 Jamie is ridiculous and fun。 But she’s too OP。 It never felt like there were any real stakes of an There was a lot I liked in this book and a lot I hated。 I know that the time period was even worse for women than now but I could never bring myself to like Alec; he only treated Jamie well because he actually liked her。 If she’d been Mary, he’d have just raped her whenever to try to produce an heir and shunned her, basically。 So the fact that he was good to her in the end doesn’t redeem him to me。 Jamie is ridiculous and fun。 But she’s too OP。 It never felt like there were any real stakes of anything here— which I get is normal in romances but it felt like it wanted to be more than a romance。 Which also meant the sex scenes felt out of place and too numerous and just ridiculous。 It was meh fine。 。。。more

2。5- Garwood is great writer but I can’t get past the extremely sexist and non consensual nature of her books。 Maybe I need to cut out all medieval age novels from my backlog。

One of the best HR books I ever read。 Whats not to like? It is hilarious, romantic and both Jaime and Alec are lovable characters。 I look forward to reading more of Julie Garwood's works!! This was like kind of idk。。。 cheesy? But like the Kraft Singles kind of cheesy where you’re not sure if it’s not really cheese or just not very good

One of my absolute favorites。 I love how Julie can make strength subtle and stubbornness an asset。 She’s a master at the Grumpy Sunshine trope making you feel both the frustration and joy that comes from really opening yourself to another。 I like to think of this as one of my “pallet cleanser” books that I read before diving into a new or unknown story。

This book is awful。 The writing is hard to wade through。 The plot is awkward。 How does it have so many high reviews? The main character is so juvenile that it’s impossible to get into the love scenes。 I wanted to like it so much but just couldn’t make myself。 🤷🏻‍♀️

Cute。 This is one I read in my teens, but I didn't keep it over the years。 I liked it, it's classic Julie Garwood。 I won't keep the copy I have due to the condition。 Bought from FB marketplace in a lot of 220 books for $40。 Cute。 This is one I read in my teens, but I didn't keep it over the years。 I liked it, it's classic Julie Garwood。 I won't keep the copy I have due to the condition。 Bought from FB marketplace in a lot of 220 books for $40。 。。。more

I can't help but cringe at this story。 The way that Jamie and Alec talk about each other in their own heads was a little unappealing (and awful--in my opinion)。 When they call each other idiots (or daft) or whatever words that they were thinking, I couldn't help but feel like they really honestly didn't love each other--they just were in lust with each other。 In all opinions, I don't know why Jamie found any redeeming qualities in Alec。 He's incredibly forceful and just。。。I don't know how to exp I can't help but cringe at this story。 The way that Jamie and Alec talk about each other in their own heads was a little unappealing (and awful--in my opinion)。 When they call each other idiots (or daft) or whatever words that they were thinking, I couldn't help but feel like they really honestly didn't love each other--they just were in lust with each other。 In all opinions, I don't know why Jamie found any redeeming qualities in Alec。 He's incredibly forceful and just。。。I don't know how to explain it。 I found myself wringing my hands the majority of the book on the dynamic of these two characters。 Oh sure, Jamie is very caring towards others, but her character growth seemed very small or practically non-existent throughout the story。 I just didn't really understand their relationship very much or see how they found out that they "loved" each other -- I couldn't really see it。 I honestly would have liked to see Jamie's sister, Mary and her husband, Daniels relationship a little more (or at least talked about more) -- but that might just be my curiosity getting the better of me。 。。。more

4。25 stars

This was my first book by Julie Garwood and it was a lot of fun! It made me smile while reading, was so charming and an all around good time! Jamie is English and Alec is Scottish and they live completely different worlds。 And now, they’re married by order of their kings。 Oh my goodness these two had the best banter and so much chemistry! Jamie was so headstrong, witty, and quirky。 Alec was strong, dominating, hard headed, but sweet and gentle in his own way, especially with Jamie。 4。25 stars

4。5/5This was such a delight! A historical romance between a Scottish Laird from the Highlands and an English Lady。 Set around 1100, during the reign of King Henry I and King Edgar of Scotland。 I love all things medieval so naturally I loved the time and place setting of this story。 I also loved the clashing of two different worlds and the way Alec and Jamie really had to work at finding common ground。 All of the historical bits and details were super fun, as was the humor。 Jamie's feisty nature 4。5/5This was such a delight! Always FunI really enjoy Garwood’s Historical Romances。 They always put a smile on my face and the characters give me a chuckle。 The women aren’t damsels in distress and the heroes are not misogynists - I suppose that they are what we would all like to be and who we would love to have in our lives。 The humour is what sets her books apart from the typical historical bodice ripping novels and why I have read them many many times over the years。
